Title:                   MS Scholar Bowl Coach

Reports to:          Athletic Director/Building Principal

South Callaway is seeking an energetic, student-centered head coach to lead our MS scholar bowl program.  The coach must demonstrate strong leadership skill in the area of sportsmanship, integrity and character development. Qualified candidates should possess strong communication and organizational skills. They must demonstrate knowledge of the skills and strategies of the activity of scholar bowl as it pertains to interscholastic activities in Missouri.

Responsibilities

• Emphasize the importance of academic excellence and assist in monitoring and maintaining high academic standards for members of the scholar bowl program.
• Promote the program within the school and community. 
• Work cooperatively with other athletic/activity coaches/sponsors in order to operate a well-balanced program. 
• Collaborate with the athletic director in the preparation of schedules for the team. 
• Recommend to the athletic director the type and amount of equipment and supplies needed to conduct the scholar bowl program. Provide for the inventory and care of equipment. 
• Ensure that all athletes have valid medical examinations and other required qualifications before they are allowed to practice. 
• Assist the athletic director to ensure that lists of all players eligible for athletic contests are prepared and maintained under MSHSAA Rules. 
• Complete all required trainings set forth by MSHSAA and South Callaway RII.
• Develop positive relationships with students, staff, parents and the community.
• Embrace and support the mission of the high school program. 
• Perform other duties related to the position of head activity sponsor as requested by the high school principal and/or athletic director.

 Typical Duties

• Establishes standards of conduct and administers them in a fair, equitable and consistent manner. 
• Monitors and assesses student progress and adjusts student instructions accordingly. 
• Creates an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the student athletes. 
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials and facilities. 
• Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules. 
• Encourages student athletes to set and maintain high standards of behavior on the field or off. 
• Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations. 
• Is available and meets with student athletes and parents as needed.
