Support Staff Position  

 

Title:                    Custodian  

 

Qualifications:    Good health, able to do substantial lifting, and demonstrates aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities.  

 

Reports to:          Director of Building and Grounds and/or Building Principal  

 

Supervises:         As may be designated  

 

Job Goal:             To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place to learn.    

 

PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

1.  Keeps buildings and grounds clean at all time by performing all tasks concerning various cleaning and maintenance activities as prescribed, directed, and scheduled.  See attached cleaning responsibilities for evening custodians.    

 

2.  Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage.    

 

3.  Shovels, plows, sands, etc. sidewalks, entry ways, drives, and parking areas as appropriate.    

 

4.  Opens and closes buildings each school day and keeps doors secured at all times.  Before leaving makes sure all windows are locked, lights turned off, and the alarm is set.    

 

5.  Identifies and stops any non-staff individuals without a visitor’s identification tag and redirects them to the office.    

 

6.  Picks up and delivers the school mail as directed.    

 

7.  Performs yard keeping duties that are necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.  

 

8.  Makes minor repairs and reports all major repair needs to the Director of Building and Grounds, Building Principal and/or Superintendent when appropriate.    

 

9.  Maintains a regular service schedule of equipment requiring scheduled service.  

 

10. Reports all damage to school property to the appropriate supervisor or administrator.

 

11. Remains on the school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and attendance is requested by the Principal.  

 

12. Moves furniture and equipment as required for various activities and as directed by the supervisor or administrator.  

 

13. Assists in the cafeteria as needed.  

 

14. Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and materials on hand and requests needed replacements from the Director of Building and Grounds prior to actual need.  

 

15. Cleans and disinfect toilets, showers, and locker room floors daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains as needed on a daily basis.  

 

16. Maintains appropriate working relationships with all school personnel and the             students.  

 

17. Other duties, not specifically mentioned above, may be assigned by the Director of Building and Grounds, Building Principal or Superintendent of Schools.    

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary and work year to be established by Board Policy  

 

EVALUATION:  Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy
