Professional Staff Position

 

Title:                 Director of Special Services

 

Qualifications:  Must hold proper state certification and a Master's Degree in one of the following areas:  Special Education, Elementary or Secondary Principalship, or Guidance Counseling - One or more years of 

experience is desirable but not mandatory

 

Reports to:       Superintendent or Building Principals as his/her work involves their pupils

 

Supervises:      All special services personnel

 

Job Goal:          To oversee areas of Special Education, Title I, II, IV, VI, ECSE, Homebound, Homeless, and Section 504.




PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

  1. Provides direction for the district's special services programs and demonstrates knowledge of the legal basis for special programs.
  1. Involves appropriate staff and patrons of the district in advising the Superintendent and Board of Education about special programs.
  1. Ensures implementation of the process of special programs in the district.
  1. Uses objective data, research, and other information, as appropriate to determine goals and direction of the special services programs and reports to the Superintendent and Board of Education on the progress of those programs.
  1. Coordinates contracts for the district for supplemental services required to fulfill the needs to students served by the district.  
  1. Demonstrates effective communications skills with special services staff, regular education staff, administration, Board of Education, parents of students in special programs, and patrons of the district to ensure effective and clear lines of communication about the operations of the programs and the goals of the district.
  1. Provides leadership for positive and effective change in special programs to include all members of the change process.
  1. Provides for effective recruitment, selection, and assignment of district special programs' personnel to ensure that all district needs have been met.
  1. Provides for the management of special programs instruction to ensure it is coordinated with the requirements under state and federal law, consistent with current research, and coordinated with district instructional goals and objectives.  
  1. Promotes staff development for staff through a focus on the implementation of Core Academic Standards and effective instructional strategies.  
  1. Analyzes and utilizes all summative, formative and common assessment data for the improvement of curriculum for instruction and student achievement.
  1. Supports effective implementation of technology throughout all curricular and instructional settings.
  1. Follows Board policies, communicates the importance of following Board policy, and evaluates staff appropriately.  
  1. Communicates the high standard of expected performance to all staff, students, and patrons for all students and staff at South Callaway R-II School District.  
  1. Maintains the Federal Programs Budget, Special Education Part B Budget, and Early Childhood Budget as required by the DESE in order to generate the maximum allowable revenue for the district.  
  1. Develops and demonstrates positive relationships with staff, district administrators, Board of Education members, patrons of the district, other district administrators, and other support persons as needed to ensure open and clear communications in a cooperative work atmosphere.
  1. Other duties, not specifically mentioned above, may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.




TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary and work year to be established by Board Policy

 

EVALUATION:  Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy
